Description | A used rubber hand stamp from a lot purchased from a retired New York Central (NYC) Railroad Ticket Agent. This stamp reading "Unescorted Remains 2 Fares" and was used by Ticket Agents to show that the person using the ticket was not alive and traveling alone. Everyone riding the train needed a ticket, alive or not. If there was no one to escort the remains, a second fare was charged to handle the extra work the train crew needed to do to ensure a smooth trip. |
