DescriptionA rare and unique Pullman Menu that was created as a sample menu for a project the Pullman Commissary was working on with the Wabash Railroad in 1962. The Wabash was interested in converting 12 roomette - 4 double bedroom car into a sleeper buffet for service between St. Louis and Detroit to replace a bedroom lounge and still provide meal service. This is similar to service provided on the Union Pacific Railroad's (RR) Butte Special that ran between Butte, MT, Ogden, UT and Salt Lake City, UT as Pullman Line 679. This menu was based on a Butte Special menu used on the snack bar cars offering more food than a typical lounge car, but less than a buffet or diner. The conversion never took place as the Norfolk and Western (N&W) railroad took over the Wabash in 1962. This prototype menu was purchased as part of the Pullman Commissary files for the proposed conversion which contain all of the internal notes about developing the service.
